Australiana was all the rage in the 1970s, when the Springvale City Council hit on the idea of turning a strip of land in Keysborough into a park in which every Australian state was represented by its own garden bed. Just as Australia-map teaspoon racks were fashioned to showcase souvenir spoons from far-flung towns, the Roth Hetherington Reserve was devised to display native flora from around the country.
